RC Pets Products Baseline Fleece Pullover

Hiking and camping with senior pets can introduce a few new challenges – one of which is their sensitivity to extreme temperatures.

Our girl Dav would once happily hang out in a snowbank for hours unbothered.

However, at 15-years-old she now feels chilled much more quickly. This means finding new ways to keep her warm and comfortable in the winter months.

Recently, we were gifted a Baseline Fleece Pullover from RC Pets Products for her to try.

This simple sweater is easy to put on, with no zippers or other features that could poke into her, and flatlock seams for optimal comfort.

It’s made from an anti-pill fabric that stands up well to being cleaned and doesn’t shrink, an essential feature if your dog will be wearing it daily during this time of year, as she has been.

It can easily be layered with other coats for outdoor adventures or worn on its own.

She now has a comfortable option for hanging out in the cabin or taking short walks around the property. She even comes right to me when she sees me pick it up.

If you share your heart and home with a senior pup, we can’t say enough about how perfect this is.

**NOTE: The promo code applies to regular-priced items only and cannot be used on discounted or clearance products (this includes the Walking Kit and the Good Dog Kit, which are already discounted or products that are temporarily offered at a lower price during our upcoming Winter Sale.)

The code cannot be stacked with other promotions, such as special discounts on orders over $100 or in conjunction with smaller discounts offered to new newsletter subscribers.

KittyCatGo Kylo Leash & Personalized Kylo Collar

The perfect blend of style and function, we LOVE our custom Kylo leash and personalized Kylo collars.

Both products are made from Biothane. This means they are waterproof, stink-proof, and easy to clean – an important consideration when spending time in the wilderness.

There are many colours to choose from, plus our cat’s collars are engraved with their name for a fun personal touch.

KittyCatGo stands behind the quality of their products (for good reason) and offers a lifetime guarantee. Not that we’ve ever had to test that.

If you’re searching for the best leash for your adventure cat, look no further.

We firmly believe that once you switch to Biothane, you’ll never look back. We can’t sing its praises enough!

K9 Sport Sack Plus 2

For those who don’t know Lucifer’s story, the young pup came from a rough situation with serious injuries to both his front legs.

This meant strict crate rest and not being able to get out hiking with the rest of the pack.

Luckily, we were introduced to K9 Sport Sack, a dog backpack that allowed me to carry the little man on our adventures comfortably.

The bag we have for Lucifer is the K9 Sport Sack Plus 2.

But, they have several styles to choose from depending on your dog’s size and how you plan to use it.

Recently, we’ve been considering the K9 Sport Sack Kolossus, their X-Large backpack, for our 15-year-old senior girl, Daviana.

Whether your dog is injured, recovering from a recent surgery, too young for long hikes, or slowing down in their golden years, a backpack is a great way for them to be included.

TUDEQU 4-in-1 Hands-Free Dog Leash with a Multifunctional Waist Bag

When hiking and camping with multiple dogs (and cats), you may sometimes feel a little overwhelmed.

If so, you’re not alone! From holding multiple leashes to juggling a variety of treats, two hands don’t always feel like enough – I’ve been there.

With this in mind, John decided to purchase the TUDEQU 4-in-1 Hands-Free Dog Leash with a Multifunctional Waist Bag for each of this year.

We had previously enjoyed hands-free hiking, using convertible Biothane leashes and The Buddy System (my go-to for around the campsite with Lucifer). But this was our first hiking waist pack.

The freedom to hike hands-free without compromising essential items has been incredible.

Plus, it is far easier to access our water bottles or even our first aid kit in an emergency with it at the waist instead of tucked away in a backpack.

The pack itself is comfortable to wear, even on longer hikes.

I wore mine this past October for the 15-kilometer hike of the Lakeshore Hiking Trail at Silent Lake Provincial Park.

There are two spots to hook a leash to the pack, one on each side of the main pocket. This makes it a great option regardless of whether you’re hiking with one dog or multiple.

Two separate water bottle holders are located on the sides of the pack. I used one for my water and one for the pets’ portable water bottle.

It offers space for everything you need – water, snacks, treats, your cell phone, a hiking first aid kit, a tick key, and more!

Rovercoat Lightweight Shell Raincoat

Another addition to our gear that we were generously gifted this year was our Rovercoat Lightweight Shell Raincoats for the pups.

These coats are a base shell, making them perfect to use on a warmer, rainy day, or you can layer them with a sweater (*cough* the Baseline Fleece above *cough*) for added warmth.

The company also offers fleece-lined options if you are searching for an all-in-one solution for cold temperatures.

Upon receiving it, we were pleasantly surprised with just how high-quality the material is.

It is lightweight and breathable to prevent your dog from feeling weighed down or overheated during your adventures.

When not in use, it conveniently folds up into the pocket on the back, making it easy to carry.

This is a great way to keep your pup comfortable when hiking or camping in the rain, allowing you to enjoy your outdoor adventures without being limited by the weather.

Outward Hound Granby Splash Dog Life Jacket

We have discussed the importance of life jackets for pets in the past.

So, it’s probably no surprise that we believe a life jacket would be the perfect holiday gift if you don’t already have one for your outdoor adventures.

If you plan on canoeing, kayaking, or spending time on the boat, a life jacket is essential for your pet!

Even the strongest swimmers may end up in a situation where they are injured or unable to get themselves to safety.

Our go-to life jacket for our pack is the Outward Hound Granby Splash Dog Life Jacket.

This simple and straightforward jacket is comfortable, easy to put on, and offers the buoyancy necessary to protect them in an emergency.

On the back of the jacket, two handles make lifting the dogs up and out of the water easier.

We also love the bright orange colour that can be easily spotted when searching for them during a rescue.

A doggy life jacket is the perfect gift option for newer furry travellers or those who are just starting to expand their adventures to include water activities.

Planet Dog Orbee-Tuff Snoop Treat Toy

While camping with our dogs, we are often super active, taking them swimming, hiking, canoeing, and more.

But what about the days you can’t get out and give them that much-needed outlet for their energy?

As parents of three high-energy dogs (especially our little ball of chaos, Lucifer), finding ways to entertain the dogs while camping is essential.

This is especially important on rainy days when they are stuck in the dining shelter for a long time.

Lucifer’s current favourite treat toy is the Planet Dog Orbee-Tuff Snoop.

However, we have several other toys the pups enjoy, including the West Paw Zogoflex Toppl and the West Paw Zogoflex Rumbl.

We love using these toys to make mealtime more fun and mentally engaging.

Lesotc Travel Water Bottle for Dogs

Are you searching for a stocking stuffer for your pup? Look no further!

Whether on the trail or spending time in the canoe, your pet needs access to plenty of clean, fresh water.

Many pet water bottles leave you fumbling with removable bowls or other accessories that overcomplicate the process or result in something being lost along the way.

One of the additions to our gear that has made our trips so much easier is our Lesotc Travel Water Bottle.

This bottle has a built-in silicone bowl that folds to make it smaller for transport.

It fits most standard water bottle holders or can be hung off your pack with the attached carabiner, ensuring it’s always with you when needed.

Dehydration is a serious concern when adventuring with pets.

Why not take this opportunity to set yourself up for more safe and enjoyable trips with your furry travel companion next season?

Spleash Portable Pet Water Dispenser Grip Handle

Another fun solution to carrying water on your trips is the Spleash, a leash accessory that doubles as a water storage device.

The reservoir holds up to 12 oz of drinking water. This makes it the perfect option for shorter hikes.

In addition to the built-in bowl, which can be flipped down from the top of the handle to collect water for drinking, it also can be used to spray water up to 14 feet.

It can be used to spray down your pet on a hot day, cooling them off.

Or, if you hike with cats or a reactive dog like we do, it can be used as a safe deterrent to keep off-leash dogs at a distance.

We get compliments about how unique and resourceful this is every time we take it on a hike!

Whether you’re shopping for your own adventure pets or you have a fellow outdoor-loving pet parent on your shopping list, this is a great option.

PawHut Soft Pet Playpen

If you have seen any of our videos or social media posts featuring our tent camping setup for Pippen and Jinx, you may have already seen this playpen at work.

The PawHut Soft Pet Playpen is a great way to bring your indoor cat camping while keeping them comfortable and contained.

Folding down flat into its carry bag, it’s convenient for travel.

When you get to the campsite, it provides a safe and secure place for your cat to hang out or sleep. We use ours as a “room” inside our tent.

This encourages the cats to sleep by keeping them separated from the dogs (or they will play all night) while also preventing them from bolting out the door if we get up to go to the bathroom at any point.

There are two doors on opposite sides, plus the top can be zipped off, allowing easy access.

Plenty of mesh paneling around the full playpen allows for airflow, preventing your cat from becoming too hot inside.

If you want to use it outside, the bottom can be removed to allow access to the grass beneath their paws while four stake points hold it firmly in place to prevent them from escaping.

This has quickly become an essential part of our cat-friendly travel gear and a necessary part of our campsite setup.

Paikka Recovery Blanket for Dogs

I was first introduced to the company Paikka and their recovery products through my friend and fellow dog parent Christy shared how she uses them with her dog Elvis.

It was only a couple of days after seeing Elvis snuggled into his recovery blanket that I purchased ours.

The blanket is a thick wool mix, making it a warm option on those colder trips, but that isn’t the most impressive thing about it.

Each blanket features Far infrared (FIR) emitting material. FIR has been studied at length and proven to reduce inflammation, increase blood flow, and boost the body’s natural recovery process.

This means it can help your dog’s muscles recover after a long or demanding hike.

With Lucifer having worked through his previous injuries, we still take steps to ensure he has no further problems.

After any long hikes, I pull the blanket out, and he snuggles right into it for a cozy nap. I can’t help but notice how much quicker he dozes off when the blanket is part of the equation!

This year, the company generously gifted Daviana another part of their recovery line – a Recovery Bed Cover made from the same FIR material.

Even a casual day around the campsite or a short hike requires some recovery time at her age. This instantly turns her favourite orthopedic bed into the perfect place to make that happen.

These products have quickly become a part of our daily routine.

The Kas Pack Adventure Journal for Pet-Friendly Travels

Of course, we couldn’t do a gift guide here without mentioning our own product!

If you’re newer to The Kas Pack, the Adventure Journal is designed to give pet-friendly outdoor travel lovers a place to track their adventures.

This includes tracking information, like set-up considerations, that can help with future trip planning.

As someone who camps with a reactive dog, taking note of things we notice while at a park or campground is SO valuable.

A campsite may look perfect on the reservation site, but it falls short of our expectations when we arrive.

The journal is also a fun spot to write down all those special memories with your furry travel companions. Then, you can relive those moments anytime your heart desires.

This is the perfect gift for any pet-friendly outdoor travel lover in your life.

Whatever your budget, style of pet-friendly outdoor travel, or the size and personality of your furry travel companion, I’m positive there’s an option on this list for you!

Most importantly, remember that while gifts are great (I’m not denying that), the gift of your time is most valuable.

The best gift you can give your pet(s) is to set aside time for them during the busy holiday season.

This could be a short hike at their favourite trail, curling up by the fire in a cozy cabin, or just playing outside in your snowy yard.

The “what” doesn’t matter as long as you spend quality time together!
