In Loving Memory of Pippen

Our hearts are shattered to share the end of an era here in The Kas Pack. Our sweet girl Pippen has taken her final adventure, crossing the rainbow bridge after a three-month battle with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Pippen’s story began in 2009 while I was managing a pet store. At the time, I partnered with our local humane society for a fundraiser, creating a display of adoptable pets to raise much-needed funds and help them find their forever homes. Among the photos was a beautiful long-haired tortie with the biggest owl eyes I had ever seen.

When I visited the shelter to drop off donations, I learned that this stunning girl, a 9-month-old kitten named Pippen, had been found as a stray in the city.

The moment I locked eyes with her, I knew young Pippen was meant to come home with me. From that day on, she took over the house, our hearts, and eventually every adventure she could talk her way into.

Pippen was the ultimate diva. She was a tiny cat, just 5 lbs, but had a huge personality. She was confident, vocal, and affectionate. She always knew exactly what she wanted (and deserved), and wasn’t afraid to make sure the world knew it too. This sweet little kitty had a big voice, an even bigger attitude, and a purr that could be heard anywhere in the house.

Over the years, she became the sweetest little travel buddy. Pippen was an explorer, joining me on countless adventures across Ontario and beyond. From camping and hiking trips to birdwatching from a hammock outside our cabin, she loved every moment spent outdoors with her pack. She even joined me on a flight to Colorado last year for BlogPaws LiVE, her biggest adventure yet.

No matter where we went, she always made sure she was the star of the show.

In September, we learned that Pip was suffering from CKD. Modern medicine and the incredible food/treat options available today allowed us to give her a wonderful quality of life in these final months, and for that, we are so thankful.

When it came time for her to take her final journey, she did so surrounded by love. As I held her in my arms at the vet’s office after she was given the sedative, she gently placed her little paw on my hand, as if to tell me it was okay to let go; she was at peace.

Our hearts are broken, but they are also so full. Pippen brought endless love, laughter, and adventure into our lives. She will forever hold a piece of our hearts.

Run free, my sweet little diva. Until we meet again over the rainbow bridge…
